Getting into law
Work experience
Its a great idea to get some work experience ini the legal sector before applying to read law at university as it allows you to asses if its the right subject for you and provides the opportunity for discussion in your personal statement and interview.
General advice
- In general barristers chambers don't offer work experience for 6th form students.
- If you have any contacts in the legal sector use them
- I recommend applying November/December the year before the summer you wish to do work experience
- write to all the firms in you area from this you will probably get one or two who reply and offer work experience
- If you don't get any this way or you want more get a list of the phone numbers of the solicitors firms in your area and phone them up.

Showing interest
- go visit a variety of courts preferably a variety of county and high courts or even the old haley, make note on the cases you watch so you can discuss them at a later date.
- read around the subject , the following is a recommend list of books I have read and enjoyed for law
- Eve was framed- Helena kennedy
- The law machine
- Laws strafes cases
- Just law- Helena Kennedy
- Judging judges
-Defending the guilty
-The rule of law
- Famous trials- F.J.McLynn
- The justice game
- Memoirs of a radical lawyer
- Law a very short introduction
- Find an area of law that interests you the most, for me this was medical law as i have a very science based background and it helped me to interlink my science and law, this was also the topic I based my EPQ on. I first became interested in it when I read a book on medical law in the library
